Re: Silencing Dissent: The LGC purge
Oh, and good catch on irishman's cut and paste, Progurt.
If that's not classical "concern trolling" I don't know what is. But will irishman be called on it? No sir, because if you take Saint-Obama for your personal savior, then everything is possible! Personal attacks, cut and paste threads, walking on water! Hallelujah!
I guess I better watch myself while posting on LGC, for fear of getting excommunicated.

Re: Silencing Dissent: The LGC purge
I'm sorry to have involved you and the other decent moderators and members at the LGC in this, I really am, you're good people. And really, I think even the people we're disagreeing with so strongly are, inside, good people. I think they've been caught up in the allure of team politics, and I don't hate the players (at least, hate is probably too strong a word), I hate the game.rolandson wrote:Ya know, I am an adult...and this is the internet...but for reasons related to all of the stuff in this thread I have been feeling like shit all day. I feel like I have failed, mostly because I have.
Here's the thing; the socialists, on this forum and others, of which I consider myself more aligned with than not, are not the enemy. We are not the enemy. I don't know when this all became a contest about who was the most (loyal, left, pure) liberal but it's resulted in what is looking more and more to be a race to the bottom.
We don't have to agree on anything, we just don't need to rip each other apart while not agreeing on anything. I can picture lurkers from the right in ecstasy while reading through this and I can't imagine how that advances us...any of us.

I should add KVoimakas and Ultravox to the group of moderators I think are doing their job appropriately.

Re: Silencing Dissent: The LGC purge
Classy.
Textbook concern trolling with some heavy passive aggressive bitching thrown in.It seems I have made a few people mad, with My Obama post, it has been locked 2 times now ! I was just voicing my opinion and as a liberal democrat, I was not holding a gun to anyone's head. I just thought this being a liberal club and all, I was hoping for some good feed back for Obama support, I guess I was mistaken.. Sorry for my opinion......from now on I will keep my mouth shut on this subject....Just like most Democrat's have to do when they are around a bunch of rightwinger's, I should have know better... Sorry... NOT
Well, I couldn't be happier to shake the dust of that place off my feet.Fuck that Irish.
You go ahead and keep posting the pro Obama stuff. Who cares what one post whore thinks.
Re: Silencing Dissent: The LGC purge
Ha! Inquisitor locked the thread when somebody threatened to come over here and explain socialism's failures vs. " regulated" capitalism's success.
That would have been a friggin' riot...

Goose is still welcome to come and try his hand performing for an unfriendly audience without lopsided moderation.comedian wrote:Ha! Inquisitor locked the thread when somebody threatened to come over here and explain socialism's failures vs. " regulated" capitalism's success.

Of course he never would, he knows how truly indefensible his position is, but I would welcome him.Progurt wrote:Goose is still welcome to come and try his hand performing for an unfriendly audience without lopsided moderation.comedian wrote:Ha! Given the shellacking he got when he took us on one at a time, I doubt that he will.Progurt wrote:Goose is still welcome to come and try his hand performing for an unfriendly audience without lopsided moderation.comedian wrote:Ha! Re: Silencing Dissent: The LGC purge
They seem upset that we'd react when someone challenges us
Obamaton: "VOTE FOR OBAMA HE IS AWESOME YOU SHOULD TOTALLY DO IT OR THE FASCISTS WIN"
Us: "Well, I don't really agree with that, and this is why"
Moderator (usually Inquisitor): "I don't know why you anti-Obama Puritopians keep disagreeing with us when you know you'll never convince us, so we're going to ban you and lock the thread."
They also seem mad that people who agree with each other would agree with each other consistently... when the people involved are socialists, but it's okay for people who agree with each other to agree with each other consistently when they are loyal and unquestioning Democratic Party partisans.
I've yet to regret my decision to stop posting there. Glad I haven't yet put any of my LGC patches on anything.

Re: Silencing Dissent: The LGC purge
I am sorry that you have stopped posting there. I miss a generally well thought discussion about whatever that could pass easily as a grad level seminar in current / historical political thought.
And I understand why you stopped posting there.
Personally I am committed to the idea that we gain strength through diversity, not unity. I want my ideas and beliefs challenged, they're fucking useless to me if they're stale. I am not a good choir member, but my voice is passable.
Many of our goals are similar and we are headed in the same direction...it's clear we have some work to do is all.

I do not share your optimism.

Re: Silencing Dissent: The LGC purge
I made my Parthian shot @ LGC yesterday.
I'm maintaining a few connections with the people I still respect over there, but it's the Blue Dogs who are running the show now and I don't want to be involved in endless flame wars when I fail to praise Obama loudly enough.
Diversity? There isn't any. Not now. Not politically. Even as I made my exit, one of their fellow liberals was being put on trial for mildly rebuking Obama.
BTW, no hard feelings over the warning, R. I threw a bomb in the forum and expected it.

Man, this is like a bad divorce.... Mommy...Daddy stop fighting please!!
Seriously though. I think that when emotions get involved, which they tend to do, that things can get out of hand. I particularly see anyone as extremely as some of the comments here have suggested. I remember the post where G&G questioned and seemed to imply that Gendo had some sort of racial animus toward Obama. I was hoping that people could pull back on that post but it was obvious that people had dug in. We'll see how things go here. It will be interesting.

I expect that people will calm down after the election.
I don't expect I'll be going back regardless.

Moderators piled on during that incident and other incidents. Some of them had the gall to defend the indefensible.
I have had the benefit of time and reflexion before I posted my earlier posts in this thread. I mean every word I wrote.

Re: Silencing Dissent: The LGC purge
I sent this in email to you but I think it's fair to place it here as well.
Hey Gendo, Just for the record, it's the principle of things and I stress that because "isn't that what the club is all about -Principle" I mean how many of us came to the LGC from another forum because that forums principles are based on lies and the inability to reason? Now they say to get the card you must come to the meeting. I see discrimination all over that shit. I didn't "choose" not to come to this meeting or the last. Some of us can't afford to buy food for the month and these assholes want to hold a stupid card like a carrot. I pm'd Mark about it several times just to ask the status of the cards And I never even got a response. What Progurt said in his posts to Inquisitor is right on.
