Intro post

I enjoy the political and gun discussions at LGC, and am looking forward to the annual meeting in a couple of weeks.

That said, my politics are decidedly left of "Liberal", and have been at least since 1968. So I'm looking forward to giving this forum a try as well. I will be pleased if it doesn't descend into sectarian squabbling, as is common in self-decribed Left fora on the internet.

Mostly I think of shooting as a hobby, largely unconnected to my politics. In my political role, I embrace nonviolence completely -- but as a tactic, not an eternal principle.

I've seen and studied enough of history -- and studying history pretty much defines the Left, doesn't it? -- to know that the push for popular power invariably leads to a violent reaction from the right. I will do what I can to see that popular forces are not completely defenseless when than time comes, as they have been too often in the past.

Sectarian nitpicking is why I'm not on the Socialist Party USA facebook page anymore. They'd pick the silliest things to fight over.

You really should try revleft, they demonstrate everything that is wrong with the socialists in america. Authoritarian leaders, and squabbling over nit picky things that really hold no candle to our current problems by the general proletariat of the board.

One of the tactical advantages that fascism has over socialism is that fascism glorifies and encourages unquestioning devotion to a leader and a cause, as well as extolling the virtues of uniformity, while socialism values independent thought and diversity. We may be freer, but we tend to move in a dozen different directions while the fascists cheerfully march in one single direction indicated by their leader.

The " professional revolutionaries" of the college campuses are the worst.
They play at being revolutionaries and can never cut the cord to college life.
Real revolutionaries are in the shops, factories, and truck cabs of our country.
