Glenn Greenwald leaves Salon.com
Glenn Greenwald, one of a handfull of left- leaning journalists that are not lining up to kiss the ass of the president, left Salon.com for good on Aug. 15.
I was wondering how long Glenn would last, having the bad taste to have shown up at a convention of American Socialists and declare that he liked what he saw- especially in comparison with what the Democrats were offering.
How jarring it was to read endless sonnets at Salon praising Obama to the skies and then see Glenn's column, exposing every dirty trick the O- team was using to continue defending American imperialist gains in the Middle East and the creation of a surveillance state at home.
Saying such things make Obama loyalists unhappy. I mean, their guy in the White House is the Good Guy, right?
Saying such things makes Obambats uncomfortable, because then they have to admit that they support a regime that forcibly ( and with great violence ) imposes its will on people here and abroad in exchange for a few mediocre economic benefits. This confession is usually stated in hysterical tones, with the Obambot reminding us what a realist he/ she is to accept such a contradiction in moral terms.
Glenn makes it seem that the parting was bereft of hard feelings, but the timing of his departure is curious. With the party faithfull whipped into a lather by election year fearmongering I would not be surprised if Glenn recieved a polite notification suggesting he would be happier somewhere else.
And so he probably is. He now works for The Guardian.

Re: Glenn Greenwald leaves Salon.com
I've been following Greenwald for years, at both Salon and after the switch to the Guardian. One downside of the Guardian switch is that there's a lot more right wing statists at the Guardian in the comment threads there.
